The gear is very expensive, but shots like these come down to skill and timing. If you’re interested in shooting with a DSLR try some of the entry level models by Nikon. The quality is great and the price won’t give you a heart attack.
Practice is everything. Just get out there and learn how the camera works and what settings work best for your conditions.

Can’t beat the quality of DSLR shots! I do a mixture of both iPhone shots and DSLR. I don’t have it specifically for candids but it does come in useful in certain situations. An example…

I think it depends on wha teach person’s taste and style is. I’m a street photographer, I enjoy shooting with a DSLR for a more artistic expression.
