I want to get better at capping and getting better shots without my huge iPhone making it obvious. What are some good cameras relatively small maybe with good quality. It’s either that or I upgrade to newer but smaller iPhone or android. Thank you
I personally use a GoPro 9 which is like $200-300, depending on how invested in this you really wanna get.
It’s small and easy to use but it had some quirks I needed to iron out first, like needing to format your microSD, only using GoPro brand batteries, which software to use to make edits, etc.
How exactly do you use it?
I feel like by 2025 there should be better tech/methods than pretending to take a call or holding your phone to your side but when I think about it I’m not sure how feasible they actually are
The smaller the camera the worse the quality for one thing
And everyone has a phone in their hand so it’s easy to play off meanwhile if someone sees you with a GoPro that’s a different story
Yeah I use the phone on my side method it works pretty good in good lighting but my quality is not the best, I use a iPhone 12pro max it’s outdated lol but I don’t want to spend a lot on an upgrade. My only issue with the side method is I can’t get upshots or close ups without having to get really close I want something smaller where I can get good quality frontals without them seeing a phone in my hand aiming at there crotch lol. I’m husky and dress mainly wear jeans so it looks off if hold my phone like I don’t have pockets lol unless I’m carrying something
I use a background recording app so I can use my phone or just put it on my side and follow it’s super easy and no one can see you’re recording lol … Got so much footage just have had a single chance to unload, edit, and upload… I have over 100 tb worth of 4k content
Phone is best option for me. I’ve heard that action cams are good too!
I use my s23 ultra and i typically have at my side or i pretend to be looking at my phone while capping. Acting is key if your holding it upright. Ill act as if im scrolling using visible thumb action, pretend to view online videos, and even act as if im taking a video call.
Personally like phone in hand nothing beats it for me but you can also make a setup for it too, I’ve used with some nice results.
I tried that too but I’m not sure if it varies per app but I used an app called “discreet” and it’s supposed to record in 4k and 60fps but to me it seems like less quality than my regular phone camera
There are some trade offs to using the GoPro-in-bag method compared to phone.
Most importantly the video quality is significantly better but using a bag with strap helps with some better angles and less shakey shots.
Everyone knows you can take pics with your phone, but everyone has their phone out so you can just deny deny deny. A camera in a bag is much more incriminating if you’re caught.
Most of the time I keep the face of the bag out of sight or covered by my hand and try to stay conscious of people around me. You can check out the content I’ve posted here to see the results.
Hmmm third eye works perfectly for me and has no issues also tracks well if you need it to but I have so many videos saved that’s pending editing lol but this hobby gets addicting
Unfortunately for you, the best option is to upgrade to an iPhone that has the 4K/60 frame camera.
Plugging wired earphones to the phone even if the top phones don’t come with 3.5mm anymore, at least an adapter could work. That’s a good enough way to lower suspiciousness
Get a black screen app (I use MoviePro) and use the front camera
I’ve seen a few people say they setup their phone in their cart and go hands free recording the entire time, anyone have experience with that and can explain the setup a little better?
Just iPhone in hand and then click side buttons, hope for the best. If you’re seeing someone towards you, pop into back pocket, SNAP! or put on record keeping cameras above pocket seam.
It’s not obvious to other people, you’re the only one who feels at risk because you know what you’re doing.
