Announcing Bigger Like Requirements

Previously, the limit was 10 likes required in 10 hours. Now the new limit is 10 likes in 5 hours. This will help declutter the front page and remove low quality posts faster so we’re not flooded with too many low effort posts.

There’s also another new limit: 20 likes in 10 hours.

To summarize:
Posts have 5 hours to earn 10 likes. Otherwise they get deleted.
Posts have 10 hours to earn 20 likes. Otherwise they get deleted.

You can think of it as “2 likes per hour to survive”. That is very doable, and I see plenty of posts that get 50+ likes in 10 hours, so getting 20 is reachable. Let’s not forget that the forum has more users now, so there’s plenty of likes to go around. We’ve been getting almost 100 new posts per day, so it’s time consuming to sift through so many posts.

This is a harsher limit, and it does mean more posts will get removed, but this is better for the community. If you want to share your content, it has to be something people actually want to see.

It also gives people an actual reason to like posts. When you like a post, you know you’re actually saving the post from deletion. Your Like actually matters and makes a difference.

It also means that if your post survives, it’s more rewarding because it means the community actually liked your post.

Does it mean you have to 10 likes in 5 hr bracket first then move to 10 more likes in 20 hrs?

Sounds good, quality over quantity!

Now you gotta be careful as to when you upload cause people have jobs?? so if something amazing and out of this world is posted at the wrong time it’ll get removed? Seems completely logical.

It’d be nice to know what time people are mostly posting so we can have a massive group posting and share at a given time of day/night, mind giving us the stats on when we post the most? And what time zone cause then people can basically vote out shitty posts at once

Think it would be better to know when the most people are usually on during the average day, so we can sort out the post the night before, and post at the time most eyes will be on the site the next day

I wouldn’t worry so much about the time of day. There are always people logged in in large enough numbers to give likes.

This is a huge step in creating a better experience for everyone. Shitty content has been a plague for a long time, and hopefully this can help overcome that.

Definitely seeing an uptick in the quality of posts. I know it has made me second guess posting something that isn’t high quality.
