Just started capping recently and my anxiety wins 99.9% of the time I see an opportunity. I’m way too scared to even pretend I’m pointing the phone in someone’s direction.
I recently bought a tiny 1080p pen camera and have been strapping it in my pocket (the lens is in the clip of the pen) to hopefully just get some drive bys without the chance of suspicion. Mixed results, mostly bad. It seems like people here are (understandably) a bit hesitant to share their methods, but any tips for a newbie or any experiences with disguised lenses?
Yeah you definitely can. Set it in freeframe mode so you can adjust the perspective later. Man capturing behinds would be easy, its capturing the front thats the risk since you don’t have any real excuses if you get caught lol
Mobile phone stuck in a breast pocket of a shirt or jacket - activated record (4k) in advance and walk normally, blending in the crowd and following the steam always helps. Hold a cup of coffee, a book, newspaper or something. Just act busy :-)

The only bad thing about using hidden cams or “spy cams” is you cannot tell at all what the hell youre pointing at. You could be filming the sky the whole time I’ve experimented with them and it has all been bad results, if youre going to use them theyre better for stationary shots like on a shelf or something.
That 360 go camera is a nice alternative like the poster above mentioned, it is pretty small but again it looks like a camera so its not really a “hidden” cam.
I’ve been using a gopro in a small electronics bag for a long time now. I use foam and tape to make a slot for the gopro to sit in and a hole cut in the front for the lens to poke through.
I try to obscure the lens using tape and cutting an irregular hole in the fabric of the bag. Then I use black spray paint and cut some extra crap around the hole to try and disguise it. My art skills are awful and I’ve gone through like 4 bags and only one of them was really well hidden (lasted about 2 years before I got busted so hard the cops ended up confiscating it lmao).
Capping using this setup has taken years of trial and error, but I’ve gotten pretty smooth with it. I feel it has some advantages and disadvantages compared to phone capping; certain kinds of caps may be easier or harder. It’s very good at walking up behind girls and getting their asses, it’s a very steady shot. Everyone knows a phone can take photos, but as long as my body language doesnt give me away, or they dont see the lens, it’s very discreet.
