What has worked best for me is to use a folder and the cell phone on the other side. I recommend dressing decently, that way, people think you are going to a job interview, you can record in a very obvious way and people will unconsciously discard you when they see a well-dressed man with a folder. The only thing you have to do is look somewhere else as if you were looking for a specific place.
This works for places like the street or shopping centers but not for stores.
Would love to see more photos of people’s rigs/setups for inspiration.
ive used the tieing shoe lace method best used in lift or near elevated places make sure ur laces are just ever to slightly long practice how to accidentally step on it and untie it place ur phone facing done best done with a wallet especailly if ur holding both or even better ive learnt how to let other step on my lace qhen i see someone step on it i quicken my step ever so slightly this work best when if peak peroid everyone is rushing havent been caught yet
Great post man, super informative. I want to try to get into capping and I feel like this is a really helpful post for people just starting out. Exactly what I was looking for!
These are really good tips except Target being the best place to cap … it’s by far the most dangerous place to cap lol.
One piece of advice that I’ve learned and am trying to adhere to is try not to cap in bigger stores you frequent in your town like grocery, Walmart, etc. If you cap in those places, do it in in a neighboring community or while you’re visiting somewhere.
So obvious ![]()
literally a a black hole in the corner
What’s that
app on IOS, makes the screen black while recording. Although what really makes it nice is how I can record by clicking the volume button on my headphones, which allows me to not have my phone in my hands(hidden cam)
The one that costs $12.99?
The fake phone call method is good for getting face shots and for capping women walking parallel the opposite direction you’re walking. It’s just figuring that right distance and making it look natural.
Well there are way’s to get it for free if you have some knowledge(IPA’S)
Elaborate
Anybody use or thought about using the new glasses that have the camera built in to video record?? Or the camera pens with the clip to clip on your shirt or whatever. I know on Amazon there’s like 100’s to choose from but the Apple Watch idea is prolly the most discrete/hidden way of doing it.. also heard of folks sitting their phone in their back pocket while the target is behind them.. & AppStore has a few apps that let you record while the screen is showing something different (your Home Screen, any other app or literally anything else & tap once or twice to begin/stop it’ll vibrate when you do so…
Samsung with s pen you can use s pen button to snap pics when the phone is in a front pocket or inconspicuous
I have pinned this topic because it is an excellence resource for newbie, and expert, shooters alike.
Be mindful of this!!
In light of the upcoming holiday, I want to add one more amazing tip:
Go to your local supermarket the day before really big holidays.
People are going to be out like crazy shopping for last minute food and items, and they won’t even be paying attention because they’ll be frantic. Thanksgiving is a really good one, maybe the best of them. You’ll see more subjects than you know what to do with
What i personally like to do when im a little bit distanced for the subject is pretending to send a voice message
. Its very useful just lower the brightness of the phone so you can record and thats it
