How Long?

How much time do y’all spend in a store like walmart capturing candids? Do you ever walk back and forth looking for candids without having issues with employees or worse security footage, even after long periods. New to this so just wanna get a feel for how long I can safely shoot shots and how long y’all go for.

Nobody can tell you definitively how long you can spend in a store. Nobody.

It’s gonna be different for each situation. For instance, you can walk in not even 5 minutes and brush past security who automatically suspects you for whatever reason. Or, you can get super lucky and not see any employees/security/suspicious customers for hours.

Go with your gut. If you feel like you’ve been there for a while, chances are you have.

I’ve been in a store for over 2 hours on busy days no problem.

There’s also been times where I’ve left a store after 10 minutes because I felt it was too risky.

Like Mod said, it really depends on the situation and if you’re actually being slick or not

Best thing to do is act like a shopper don’t just walk around attracting attention looking lost or like if you’re searching for someone or something , pick up items here and there. Always know when to bail !

My general rule is two laps around the store and then I’m done. I don’t hang around very long.

Like Hassx said it’s literally up to you. From my experience I would say always have a cart or basket with you. Never walk around for too long with anything. It usually raises suspicion to the store and your subjects because you are just walking around empty handed. I would say sometimes you can get away with that when they store is mega full but that’s a long shot. I would say just go with your gut and don’t over do it. If you feel something is not right then just take what you got and call it a day. Stores like Walmart and target have multiple eyes on you

Best practice is to only cap if you are actually buying something, get a cart no matter what it is you are buying, this is your best friend while capping at a store. You can go once in a blue moon with no purpose of buying anything and only to cap but better not make it a habit if you go frequently to the same stores and 10-20 mins would be enough if you don’t want to raise suspicions, there are no magic numbers, this is just a standard of what would be considered normal for someone that is just looking at items.

Besides all the good advice already given by others, every situation and scenario is different so you’ll have to be very self-conscious of what you are doing and time spent there.
