I get pretty decent running/walking shots with Pixel 8a - double press power button for stock Camera, press either volume button to take picture, press and hold for video, turn off adaptive brightness of screen and dim it down.

Note: This is decent for outdoor environments (not so great for indoor). Indoor requires finding a split second pause of movement when pressing the volume button (front and back of stride).

I have the same functions with my iphone 17 Pro using the ‘Discreet’ app.
The app is super customizable, and easy to use. Let’s me switch zoom depending on if I can get closeup or not. I’ve been trying to do that walk at 45 degrees trick, but it hasn’t been working.. especially with people behind me.

Got a s24 ultra and it’s easy to me because they s-pen, using Bluetooth function to take pictures or start/stop a record!

To be honest, I’ve never had issues recording videos with my phone, perhaps because I use a really strong privacy screen protector; from the side, it looks like the screen is off, and I make it even more discreet by lowering the brightness. That way, if anyone asks if I’m recording or something, I can quickly show them the screen and it looks like it’s turned off. Body language is also really important too, avoid looking directly at the person, always pretend you’re doing something else, holding an object, reading, listening to music and humming a bit—things that show you aren’t interested in that person. I’ve seen guys who go right up behind girls without even trying to be subtle; that ruins the chances for the rest of us, since women are becoming increasingly alert to this kind of thing. In short, don’t be greedy. If you notice a target seems a bit suspicious, stay calm and wait for her to move away on her own; don’t follow her, turn down your phone’s brightness, and get a privacy screen protector. I’ve recorded over a thousand videos and never had a single problem.

So, what I do is first size up the situation: I walk over to where she is, without recording or anything, and see if she gets uncomfortable with me standing next to her or lingering for a few seconds behind her while reading product info. If I see she doesn’t give me a weird look, then I start recording without hesitation. Obviously, I only do this in supermarkets or similar places where people tend to stand still for a while; in fact, I prefer recording in supermarkets or places where you have to queue or wait for service, because that gives me an excuse to stand near them. I find it strange that so many shooters get caught; maybe they get too greedy. Sometimes recording with a phone is more discreet than carrying a mini-camera, I mean, anyone can just hold their phone normally, whereas a guy standing behind girls with a mini-camera looks more suspicious. That’s why I haven’t bought one yet; I don’t want to ruin my streak of not having been caught so far. :joy:

completely agree with you haha. something that I’ve noticed is that wealthier or higher-class areas tend to have 1. more opportunities and 2. slower moving subjects

ex. i went to the less wealthy side of town in a walmart and the people there almost are speed running their shopping whereas wealthier areas people really take their time shopping and stand still for longer. granted, nothing is guaranteed, it can go either way depending on the timing, but that’s just something I’ve noticed.
